INTRODUCTION TO SCIENCE DIVING

3-DAY FIELD COURSE | ISLES MEDES, GIRONA (SPAIN) 

Interested in marine biology? Learn about the rich marine flora and fauna of the Mediterranean and techniques for the development of marine wildlife census while you dive in the waters of the Medes Islands, an underwater paradise and a biodiversity "hotspot" at the heart of Costa Brava (Spain).

PROGRAM

Day 1: Introduction to the Field Course. Basic concepts of science diving, oceanography and marine ecology. Main habitats of the Mediterranean and associated species. Identifying marine invertebrates and flora.

Day 2: Fieldwork and laboratory. Morning dive at the Medes Islands to apply learned concepts and techniques. After lunch, coastal dive to observe supralitoral species. Collection of samples for identification and observation in the laboratory: use of guides and dichotomic keys to determine species.

Day 3: Fieldwork and classwork. Introduction to study techniques of fish. Dive at the Medes Islands to observe and develop census of fish population. After lunch, analysis of data collected during the dives. Introduction to biodiversity indexes as a useful tool for applied studies for the management of natural areas.

CONDITIONS

Price: € 450 por persona. 

The price includes:

- All lectures and field work.
- Guided dives (3) with instructor.
- Tank and weights.

Additional services offered:

- Board and lodging during fieldwork (double room, full board).
- Diving equipment and insurance.
- Transfer from/to Barcelona to/from L’Estartit.

The Field Course requires a minimum of 6 participants.
